Delay the day, gone away
I’m missing my river roots
Dirt lessons I swam in to
I caught the biggest fish
That took back what I had thrown
Surprises out to sea
Moonshine and a little gin
Kept me warm within
Sitting on a rock so thin
I danced into another.
Month: October 2018
Ode to Coming Autumn (day 2690)
Your heart surely has emerged
Red, brown, orange seeds and grass
Each tree within the meadow glows
Floating on so merrily
Out in front of me.
Just as I can float away
Happily upon a thought of day
Your vision emerges out of mind
A lofty plan ahead, awaits.
Each growing breath of air
Sent from a new direction – North
Blows with it’s reminder to
Tuck away scattered growth
Inevitability of coming Autumn
I’ll prepare for your impending store.
Day Stumble (day 2689)
Alone I stumbled into my abode
No chance to take a dance
Riddled with a magical number
Two straight shots at the prize
Rhythm took the night away
In a solitary game
Asleep the poor man went again
To wake into another day
Sunrise (day 2688)
When we last spoke, dear
I had my heart out for you
Ragged and drawn
I woke at the dawn
To pull at your time
Like heartstrings I heard
With a rumbling band
Deep in my heart
I kept moving on
With letters of you
With nervous fetters
Pulling me down
Till I lay at bed
Each song I’d wrote
With you on my mind
Nervous and pale
And lost on a boat
My anchor too heavy
To pull up myself
And you on my mind
On an island in time
In love with you
But you have your tune
A subtle implore
With sunrise today
And I’m trying my best.
Warrior and Prince (day 2687)
You were a warrior
I, a mere Prince
Wandering this land
We met by pure chance
You with a gun
I with my lance
Warm by the fire
I had set by a fence
You told me of buffalo
I spoke of dance
Midnight approached
Magical moment
Our horses awaited
Saddles and trails
Fresh mornings
And sunlight.
Wet Day (day 2686)
A sign of muddy remains
Strung upon gray siding
Left each worker dripping
Toiling in the rain
And upon one row of scaffolding
Lay thinly cut pieces
They had strewn, discarded
Grown careless, much less neat
Due to rain soaking each their layer
Upon their day so laid.
Candle Burns (day 2685)
Candle burns its way ahead
Evening blows a cold North wind
Outside the secured door
The dog rustles drearily
– All eyes and wagging tail –
Nothing left to do today
Except drift away to sleep
Into Day (day 2684)
Sunrise makes the water rise
Night’s calm arise
More than crisscrossing
The bluest skies
Shake every scarlet web
Dew drops glitter on
In a sweet bird song
That rapidly takes morning
Into day.
Lightness (day 2683)
Finding lightness in your eyes
Dare I wonder where I was?
Should thy presence be thy guide
As Polaris in the night?
Even with unspent truths
Keeping us apart
There are no wonders escape my heart
Your lightness and my way.
Closing (day 2682)
Shake the pistol at my mane
Lord help those who shame
For a gospel bell has struck gold
And the crowd is letting out.
Gone are the busy days
Lost into the wind and rain
Leaves have let down their shine
And blankets freezing again.
Sitting alone by the fire
Running down my back
Washed away my innocence
And now’s my closing song.
