River

A
I’m a mighty river
G
Blowin’ down today
F
The sky she seen me
G
My emptiness so cold

So she let er rain
All night till I drowned
Soaked every tree and shrub
Clung to my banks of rock

I roar with my head high
Every cold, cold black night
No need to set me loose
I am no eagle cry

Long ago my destiny
Was carved into the earth
Mountain streams far away
Come to me so cold

Healing Is Still

When the streets bleed
With vibrating violence
We know that only scares the guilty
Hanging like
The victims they laid
Aside in their greed;
Healing shall still be far away.

When grass grows
Over crumbled ruins
Abandoned and exposed,
Rebels of a forgotten war
Who plundered all its worth
Relaxing in their misdeeds
Shall fever in the night
And visions reminding them
Healing shall still be far away.

When flags tear at their seams
Weakened in the wind
Salt licking at the sides
Of metal catastrophes
Blowing weeds that take control
Shall struggle upon the ground
Understanding their due;
Healing shall still be far away.

When the last engine
Seizes from strain
Deep in jungle rain, overgrown
And wildcats become predator
Most feared and most bestowed
Vines and trees, all wide and tall
Laying over all regrown
Healing shall still be far away

Take

Take what you want
Need nothing more
For remembering
For singing song

There was no audience
No standing pride
Call of the monkey
Song of coyote

When the willow
Grows over your head
Look to the weather
Summer’s soon over

Find me in
The falling weather
Temperature dropping
Frost is coming

Always remember
Take what you want
Nothing worth calling
This singing song

Old Hound (day 3007)

There’s an old hound been hollerin’
Just outside my back door
Don’t got nothin’ for it
For I just ate my last meal
Cooked my beans on an open fire
That keeps sufferin’ to keep me warm.
Mighty hard to keep me warm
If I had more sense about me
I’d have opened up my back door
All I need is a little lovin’
A woman that keeps me warm
If I’d opened up my back door
But now it keeps gettin’ colder
So I’ll be movin’ on.

Forever (day 2944)

You’d better not steal the show
Before the guests leave the room
Lost and confused
Like red in the eye
Of Three happy youngsters
Who married the feeling
That covered their sadness
Locked in two rusty fences
Six days till November
And their faces all fallen
Cold in their bones singing
What mud cannot speak
With gospel now favoured
With two plates of pasta
And a belly that rumbles
Remaining the sideshow
Forever untitled.

To William Lee (day 2719)

I know why you ran so far away
Not a scene could do for you
The world rambled some unfathomable blithe
And your vision clouded from contempt
Ever growing greed – lost seed
Lemonade stinking in the shade
Yellow circle glasses and a leftover jacket
Naked in soggy rows of an everglade.

I would also run away to the other side
Liberties are assumed and everybody’s ruined
And each land war is solved with a knife.
I would carry on in my inevitable way
No job calling me to pay taxes aside
Just like a hooker in the park and dark lines on her eyes
With a leather jacket man stopping by again
A bag in his hand and a promising grin;
Feeling empty again, night’s unwavering sin.

Though I tell ya William, I wouldn’t have shot the gun
I wouldn’t have taken aim again,
Party tricks and everyone’s looks
Southern games that nobody wins
Makes a man lost into the void.
But if you’d ask me to sing you a son.
Don’t expect it to sound like something you’d want to hear,
I’ll build and collapse and spit at it too
But that’s the price we pay, damn it every day.

Pure (day 2714)

Let pure whiskey hold me here all night
Served two years behind cold steel bars
Counted every star upon my old shield
Now I’m two years here with a feeling strong
Wrestling with an old dream gone
With six steel strings and my heart along
Struggling out beyond the the far beyond
That never turned in time to be
What could forever take me free
Twenty seven steel bars
Pure whiskey holding me here all night

Shoreline (day 2706)

There were motions that took me far away
A seaside that had me lost deep in time
For I knew there was an answer I’d yet to hear.

I cried and I cried yet there came not a sound
Once what had driven me to stand so proud
With a lesson I had learnt but had not yet changed my ways for.

Can you give me your truth in Providence
Stars that align, suns that remain,
There could be a vision and my eyes are blurred of everything near.

When was the last time I dimmed lights and sang
Forever seems like such a shallow excuse
Broken down and believing in so much more, I whispered here upon the Northern Shore.

Sing to me Ocean, sing me a song
Play with me every violin I’ve done wrong
Feel for me with your distance, no, I’ve never been here, never been here before.

As my eyes close I hold you up.
As my heart dies so goes my soul.
At my window I see no more, no more.
Along the shore I go, no more, no more.
