Went out on a line
Away and unkind
Following a path
Nowhere and no how
Took out every dime
To lay it all down
To which I then lost
Away I did fall.
Month: December 2018
Each Quill (day 2772)
The eyes of terror struck into
A faithful servant in pain
What must be done, owner’s duty
Calmly, one cannot relent.
Each quill, each sliver,
Each painfully removed
To help a faithful friend in need
Until those eyes return to softness
Playfulness again,
A friend once more returns,
Tail wagging, trust returning,
Companion to the end.
Once Seed (day 2771)
Rage at the antics talking heads play
Forced to surrender, no other way
Lost is ancient, history’s gone
For a game of dollars, enemy’s way
Has taken our diversity
Plants natural genome
Genetically modified, organic no more
Infecting, irreversible turned our seed
Unrecognized, sterile, stale,
Yet to talking heads playing games
A patent awaits the honeybees bum
To take from the farmer lands that his hands
Have nurtured and worked,
Life giving no more.

Last Years Grass (day 2770)
Brown
Bent and folded
Dry
Bare and Strewn (day 2769)
Threaded so bare
A lonesome despair
Washed in the river
Of an unknown meaning
But torn from a branch
Left in the mud
Catching all grass
Upstream a flood
Carrying on
Carrying through
Stepping right over
Branches, all strewn.
Fire Burns, Fire Bare (day 2768)
And when the fire burns
Midnight is along soon
To gather dust at each
New passing flickering
But hallows, charr’d so black
Keep an ever thoughtful glare
Amidst my burning fire
For me, I am midnight
I am the fire’s bare.
Comfort In Your Eyes (day 2767)
There are diamonds
That glow amber
And your eyes
That shine brighter
Each star
Burning up
In the night sky
I’m looking at.
Big old pine trees
That tell of ancient
Mariners searching
For a lost fish
Out at sea
Every wave
Shakes each stone
By my feet.
Do you remember
How far the sun goes
Before it falls behind
That yonder hill
Take me over
To the pasture
I know no other
Calling home.
Wild Gulls (day 2766)
Waves surged and roared
Gray tipped gulls
Found a current high in the air
That brought them around
Again and again
Looking for odds
Upon newly turned banks
Hungry for anything
As a wild animal is.
Day’s Mirth (day 2765)
Goodbye to another day
Worked my fingers raw
Played a song
With Wild Buffalo
Who danced an ancient dance.
Watched Orion come and go
And set the moon aglow,
And in my heart
I knew it’d come
To waking once more
Into a day, another work
Filling me with all my mirth.
Secret Eyes (day 2764)
I heard you over every drone
That came into my eyes
Little did I know I could
Whisper every note to you
Though I couldn’t remember
What had brought me here
I slumped into your presence then
With my ginger and soft tipped pen
But you decided to remake
The last scene of every book
That had two lovers lost at sea
Who found each other near the end
But how could we remember
What had stolen each of them?
How could we begin?
I left my secrets at the door
And then I heard your secret eyes
Tell me everything again
Tell me all I had to hear
For I would wonder nevermore
As you were here as I was here
Like sunflowers in summer air
Like dandelions woven in your hair
Like cheap sunglasses you always wear
In what I see inside your eyes.
