Fingertips
Cheeks and ears
Clenching against the cold
Month: October 2018
Relief (day 2700)
When day’s toil’s been had
Sore fingers rest a while
A goodness helps within
Growing age, nature’s win.
Though even maker’s broken down
A sigh of relief escaped
Dying sun burned out
Each smile felt deeply
As though devout.
Twice Today (day 2699)
She ran away to be
Lost in another land
For there she could always get
Coffee in a little cup
The foreign men whistled
In a sweet way
That always made her blush
And in her wallet
My once dear photo
Faded away to dust
And as she ordered
Another coffee
She asked in her foreign tongue
“Have you seen
Any good plays
Any thing going on?”
To which the kind man
Smiled at her
Asked her twice her name.
In a Thunderstorm (day 2698)
Pop art killed me in a thunderstorm
There I sat alone
Silenced by modern lights
Suffocating though I drew breath
Yet unconvinced
Crawling deeper within
To the warmth, warmth found
In the mothership womb
Holding me, straight-arm,
At quite a distance
With mechanical arms
Ragged and worn
Tried all I could
Until flashes of light.
I Knew You (day 2697)
If only we would have found us before I left
This long journey that kept me rolling over
To see a deep brown eyed wish for an evening.
I recall each new passing moon rise
Where soft voices sing me aside
Left open to a wish I had you here
In a ever waltz around an empty room I grew
So fondly amidst unwritten spaces
For some of our un-lived memories
Carry each their new meaning home.
For I knew no other, I knew you.
Unceremoniously (day 2696)
It is not a fair game for you
Hearts bleed unceremoniously
Destruction forever forcing you
Oppression unannounced
While you are wondering why you?
“Why must our people feel this?”
“Why has this been for me?”
“Why can the others not see?”
“Who is here for me?”
Though many know what life is for you
Though your people value you
The world forgets you
Telling you silently
No place is safe for you
For your bloodline spills unceremoniously
Though fires flood each embankment
Left, blowing over you
Calling out your named ancestors
Forever running after you
Filling your chest with empowerment
With a fair game for you with you.
~ written for the oppressed peoples of the world
Strong Heart (day 2695)
There is nothing you cannot do, Strong Heart
Your dancing is in me
I can feel you with my own eyes
There is nothing you cannot do.
When the river is running wild, Strong Heart
Your hero is championing
Flying the flame of desire
When the river is running wild.
Turn for the sky is gold, Strong Heart
Your ancestor speaks to you
Believe in the soul wisdom
Turn for the sky is gold.
Wild horses still run free here, Strong Heart
Here it is where their home is
Their hooves pounding can be heard in our dance
Wild horses still run free here.
A Memory Unspent (day 2694)
I woke into a shifting spell
Down again I went
Surging of a misty mess
Desire plummeting in
Like a sandcastle frothing close
My wisdom flowed forth
Stuck again, I lingered heavy
Waiting for receding light
Anxious for a memory
I laid away, unspent.
To Share (day 2693)
Clearly I had spoken to
A widow from the North
Her eyes gave me
A look I had known
A grief I could remember
But in her touch
She called to me
In words – ancient –
I’d nearly forgot,
So I reached out
Into her soul
And took what
She had to share
Habitat (day 2692)
I hope that I have not become
A garden of your worry
As lost have I found myself
To most of what was once
Have left the tool for another spade
A new life on the rise
Here I toil, finding myself
Dotted with more depth, more dirt
More truth to become with you
A fruit that groans
As seasons play upon our habitat
