Ambition’s Race (day 819)

It is not I who shelter your conscience from the bitter truth of denial
It is not my sword that slays last hopes in fitful cries about bloody battle grounds
It is not my spells which sheath truth to avoid speaking amongst those who whisper wrongs by name
Nor is it the timbstrels who dance around the spoils of victory
That shake the knees of that noble fervor so deeply rooted in passions teeth
It is the lofty words of treachery and treason that curse the steeds of ambition’s race

Without (day 771)

Without words no man can swallow
Without ideas no man can think
Without legs no man can follow
Without heart no man can provide
Without hands no man can support
Without eyes no man can sympathize
Without toes no man can wade
Without fences no man can defend
Without green no man can spring
Without skin no man can feel
Without hair no man can mind
Without voice no man can speak
Without you no man can be free

I Believe You (day 551)

I believe you
You with your twisted words
Slashing away at my heroes
Picking apart the subtle nuances
That matter very little to the future
Brainwashing our thoughts
As you focus efforts
On what matters least of all
Yet plays biggest
On the emotions we employ

I believe you
As you tell me what I need
Through scenes I’ve never wanted
And dreams I’ve never had
Pulling at my desires
And diverting my goals
Into what I’ll never get
A plan ill designed
With fake products
And cheap labor

I believe you
While I stand here full of peace
That I’m not doing it right
That I require more land
More space to hold my toys
More to make me a happy man
Things to make me leave my wife
Things to ignore my kids
Things to push out nature

I believe you
As I stand here on this earth
Listening to the music of my soul
Getting moved by the flowers that I see
And the horizon ahead of me
That all is not right
That the past isn’t free
That the future isn’t now
As I thank my life for love

I believe you

Say Them Straight (day 485)

You do not understand the things that I say
Because I simply don’t just say them straight
I give stories that, in my mind make
All questions fade away

Perhaps I should know better than to head this way
From the path you’ve chosen and molded
But from this route, we’ve had some fun
We’ve fooled ourselves by some

That’s ok because the trees still shake
They weave and bend in the wind
So then will the chance we’ve had
As all things will come and go again

This still does not make the wrong been done
Any easier on my mind
It doesn’t let me walk straight home
It keeps me tarrying along the gallows end
Not just yet at any rate, anyhow

Sunscreen on Your Nose (day 451)

I used to love you like a wild woman should
Full of youth you showered me in elegance
Holding me high upon your shoulders
As we waltz’d through parks

There was a time when I would sit by the phone
Waiting for you to call on me
I’d talk sweet words to my friends of you
When time would hold us far apart

Then, as hours turned to years
We grew up like fresh sprouts from earth
Quickly in spring, blooming in summer
And grasping to sweet life in fall

Here we sit now, asleep in the sun
No longer wary of our youthful exuberance
No longer conscious of voices around
Comfortably numb, rest in the mind

Where shall we go tomorrow?
Does it cost that much?
Do you have some sunscreen on your nose?
Can I have a sandwich please.

Distress Signals (day 136)

Cannot I lift you
With the words that I speak?
Cannot I hear you
With the ears that I append?
Cannot I see you
With the eyes that I focus?
Cannot I feel you
With the hands that I extend?

When will I know
About the weight of my words?
When will I learn
About the error in my ways?
When will I feel
About the lost lovers night?
When will I remember
About the battle of my days?
