Like Fire (day 1732)

I do not enjoy this closed solution
These open arms like fire
A road well worn in a town well shorn
And a voice long gone raspy.
Do you try so hard
To make the wolves howl loud?
I’ve seen a tree grow straighter
Then your twisted mind
And I’m closing down
This memory
That’s holding onto me like fire.

Stubborn (day 969)

There is nothing that I can do
To change the minds of stubborn fools
Even if I were to try
My wiles on their brute for a while
I’d find my thoughts stuck between
Their fist, my faith, all compiled
And to which end that I seek
Should make it dangerous, us to speak
I seek not, which not begs of me
But which the stubborn fool’s to gain

Try Again (day 738)

You cannot win every day you try
You cannot lose every day either
You cannot fly among the birds
Without walking among the worms

You cannot begin to know it all
You cannot learn without advice
You cannot grow without a breath
Of inward, deep, and conscious thought

You cannot smell the flowers in winter
You cannot speed the times of seasons
You cannot walk amongst the trees
Without a path to lead you forth

You cannot love without a love
You cannot hope without a dream
You cannot be without a seat
You cannot cry without a smile

But in the end it pulls us in
We wrap around and believe within
A lasting hug, some tea to share
You and me as we try again

Mercy (day 218)

I can still sit here and die
I can still sit here and cry
I can still sit here and ball up my mercy
And chain weights to my ankles

I can roll up the money
I can tie up the anger
I can embrace the holy seed that runs
And jumps upon the dusty ragged car

Leave me your sandy shoes
Your beach towel that floats upon your shoulder
Lead me to the prayer tree
Sturdy and singing for me tonight

I can sit here and try
I can sit here and drive
I will sit here and ball up my mercy
And chain weights to my ankles
