Smiling Observation (day 3168)

I never noticed your smiles at me
Though I’m sure they were there
They trickle down from a memory
Often bringing a smile to my own face.
I wonder if I do that in my own right now,
I’m of an age where I am no longer youngest
No longer subject to freedoms of fancy.
I know that often you weren’t just idle
Watching and enjoying the moments
You kept busy, kept active, kept thinking
No matter the occasion
So that perhaps your moments of observation
Weren’t so lingering after all
Were they longing?
Instead filled with conversation
And little tasks
To keep you busy against the time
That aging tends to lead one towards.

Closing (day 2682)

Shake the pistol at my mane
Lord help those who shame
For a gospel bell has struck gold
And the crowd is letting out.

Gone are the busy days
Lost into the wind and rain
Leaves have let down their shine
And blankets freezing again.

Sitting alone by the fire
Running down my back
Washed away my innocence
And now’s my closing song.

Secretely (day 2349)

Secretly I whisper to the eyes that hold but little space for me
An awareness that belongs not to my soul of desire
But to a lost alarm clock beckoning for another hour
A window catches a blinking light somewhere in the horizon
While a cat sadly roams about the hall with a limp it cannot heal
Desolation is a lingering affair amidst night before’s busy streets
Where once fireworks begged for mercy in the air like dragons nightly play
So I shall talk at odd volumes to hear my voice again
Though no memory shall recall the words that secretly danced
Amidst uneven sidewalks of a forgotten despair.

Accepting (day 631)

I pattered to and fro
Seemingly aimlessly disturbed as I go

But I with the plan
With goals laid upon
Accepting at my feet
I would let you in
To my dashing little plan
Should you reach out and shout

Not on this Thursday, though
To busy in your mind
You washed out my truths
Delayed with confusion

Please, I ask let me go now
I’ll set forth from here
Alone with my bushel
Onwards on my journey
