Foggy and Departed (day 2806)

For sense I needn’t rely
I’ve gone a long while without
They live within my holy vision
Foggy and departed
So far away, I’ve gone with courage.

A walk I took left me angrily
Fuming at the mouth;
What evidence did I have
To return to depth?
I needn’t tarry here too long
I’ve lost my dearest friend.

Windows took me to
A spot upon great vision’s edge
Dancing with friend’s I’ve lost
– How dare I come back here?

Though most dust had settled down
A whirlwind to my mind
Caught me plotting my demise
Caution off into wind.

Flames in Your Eyes (day 2447)

C. A
I’m not saying to forget
F. C
To find someone new
C. A
I’m not here to remind you
F. C
That life isn’t true
F(dgbe). C
I’m not trying to be angry
G. C
Let the moon be blue

A. F
When the whirlwind comes
G. C
Let it run
A. C
When the skies of darkness
G. A. F. C. G. C
Are flames in your eyes

You have found me here
A few towns away
Not a stone’s throw
But a move down the line
F(dgbe). C
With you I belong
G C
Chair by your side

Can the ghosts we’ve seen
Be the lives we’ve had
When lives we’re having
Keep us on the move
F(dgbe). C
With wind in our face
G C
For we dance all night

Moon at Midnight – Part III (day 1977)

(part II)

When I saw it, I slowly pulled my arrow from its quiver
A practice as natural to me as walking
Without hesitation I had one full meal,
A warm meal that hadn’t been had in two days
My diet primarily consisted of berries and roots
So plentiful on this wild land
But frequently supplemented with unsuspecting small game.

Before my knife entered the belly of my meal
I thanked its Gods for their offering
For helping to sustain me on my journey
For helping to return the vigor into my body
So necessary for survival
And with every bite my heart and soul filled
With a return to this earth
And I was reborn again, new.

It is eerie the silence after a feast
Such powerful voices circling around
Escaping, collecting, gathering, burning
It’s like a dizzying kaleidoscope
Caught up in a whirlwind
Mixing with my own heart screaming so loud
I walked along in silence for quite some time
Thinking about the changing seasons
And the cold that wasn’t far behind.

It comes naturally for me as a human
To push on, push forth
Push to get to a destination known
But when I see my next camp for the night
I know it without hesitation
And sometimes it comes before
Warmth of midday sun has a chance
To burn its brightest spark
And I take off my pack, sit down crosslegged
And observe the land all around.

I learned long ago that land speaks to me,
It tells me what is behind that tree
And what is under that bush,
It shows me where to look
Before what I’m looking at is there
The land shows me how wind swirls
And leaves bend off of branches
It shows me the light tapping
Of two giants married by force
And light nutshells crackling as they fall
From heights stored in safety.

There is nothing else that is as perfect
As these moments of pure clarity
Yet behind every breath
Reins the loneliness such a journey entails
Which the heart never expects
But always knows is there
And I pulled in this deep sadness
With my breath as it flowed
Memories that showed me how to move
Like a teacher that had kind patience
As I sat as a pupil learning.

Squinting (day 1195)

I lifted my eyes and squinted at the distance
Speculating on a mirage, intending to drift.

[Lost words have a tendency to echo
When moments find thee alone, lonely.]

I kick the dust. I follow an eagle trace a long line
About my imagination and wave at it motionless.

This is my breakout. This is my manhood.
I am the angel that washed out to Washington.

[I remember there was an arm that touched.
I looked and a few moments passed before I came to.]

Just like my whirlwind that had brought me to here
I sheltered the locals as I spread my arms and screamed like hell.

To arrows and sparks and roaring engines
Lifting an essence, an indescribable valor.

To sky that lifts my dream and spins my fear,
Pushing endless possibility into the cuff of my presence.

Into a distance that dances with a wavering expression,
Upon a transformation defined by these.

Whirlwind (day 933)

Leaves fly around the whirlwind
Sheltering the misunderstanding
From memories that crawl
Over cold stone floors
Scraping well-worn wooden chairs
Hollow echoes reverberating
Through the whirlwind

I cannot shelter a dove
One whose wings sweep the fresh air
Flapping through autumns deep and husky caress
I cannot Angel the Satanic circles
Pressed between my lips
Biting hard on the whirlwind
That stares, no, floats down my long nose

But then, just as long sands sweep starboard
Just as couches recede into forgiven nightmares
And as hollow steps fade into brisk airs of dawn
Whirlwinds shake down the last remaining hope
Caressing it with intimate kisses and blueberry muffins
And a comfort filled with such sentiment
Teddybears peel off their 2D stares and flicker smiles
That melt mirrors and write happiness into loose leaves
Floating off into the wide expansive whirlwind
