Days Roll By (day 1829)

When you hang around here
I roll in second gear
Not pushing too fast
Caught in the wind

Days roll by
Into weeks and miles
When your hanging ’round
Baby, let’s roll around

And my parking brake
Is the great escape
City lights and the vista
With music on easy beats

The Village Park View (day 1222)

Buildings look bigger when I’m not moving.
When I can sit and stare and observe
How ominous they behave
Sitting there, beyond.
I understand how they get there;
Months of toiling and clanging and
Larger than life machinery hoisting up
More than just imaginations.
I understand they fulfill some eager desires
And transplant thousands of civilians
Into one common – or at least proxy’d – goal.
But I still sit and wonder as they tower in the vista,
Waving at me motionless with wires and reflections.
I try to count the windows and cubbies and features
That line the facade, but my eyes have become
Weak with vastness.
It’s amazing to see the intricacies,
How erecting smaller things
Like a shelf or a picture frame
Can flummox the wisest of scholars.
Complexity of alignment,
How marvelous these structures.
When I wave my goodbyes they smile back.
They all let me know how nice it’s been to
Share these moments together.

My Dear Loon (day 1154)

Upon the brook I sat a while
Whistling my long & lone tune,
I thought I heard a critter come
But it was just the moon.

It echoed off the water so clean
That my heart lept at the thought.
And soon my mind was back again
Amidst this lone lagoon.

In my tarry I carried a pack
Stuffed with my new booty.
Not filled with random this and that,
But of my especial boon.

I held it close to my lone heart
As I breathed in the vista,
And just as I approached depart
I was greeted by a loon

Who whispered my heart a calm.
I knew once more, with no regret
That as I sat and whistled along
It would be time to go home soon.

Expanse (day 872)

I’ve come to reach out here
To look beyond horizon lines
Yell out my silent secrets
And scatter wide my deepest thoughts

Distilling my memories
In the vista beyond
Sharing all lost decisions
With the expanse below

Like a pet that once loved me
I’ve shared my whole soul
With the winds that now hold me
Together at the seams all aglow
