Ode To My Favourite Pen (day 3067)

I found you down a darkened road
Construction and rainy smells
Inside an old historic building
In to what felt like a historic store.
The walls were lined
With countless pens
And items supporting pens,
All illuminated so eloquently
Showcasing the finest specimens
Any penman could want.
In here I walked back and forth,
And fellow patrons wandered deep in thought,
Where finally in the deepest corner
I found you resting on a stand
Not a fingerprint laid your barrel.

And now so many years have passed
Yet not once have you let me down
Though the world we’ve traveled by foot
No wear shows upon your barrel,
Your nib a perfect flow.
And your mark has been inscribed
On countless pads sent afar
With, what I believe, quite an exquisite touch
Unique to me, my penman mark
You so critically help me lay.
I look and hold you every day,
Proud to know you by feel and weight
To have you by my side,
And to know that when I need you most
You’ll be right where I lay you down
Ready with your perfect balance
Upon paper we do play.

Lovers and the Fools (day 2936)

You dont scare me anymore
Like you did when I used to work
At the Army store
I count my time by setting sun
No longer the closing time
Hours loitered
My beautiful found function
That waltzed with me across the floor
Hand in hand
Cosmic information overload
Scatterd in my brain
Like dry roasted peanuts
Lingered, loitered,
Massive panic attack
In the darkness of forgotten
Lovers and the fools.

Dark You Dark (day 2751)

I wrote a poem for you
That felt like a lifetime
It wove its way through dark corners
Of suspicious bars
That looked sideways
And smelt like
The sticky lacquer
Melting off the wooden bar table.
It isn’t enough that you’re here
Vibrating like a toy sized dog
Stuck on repeat
In a cassette tape deck
That likes to eat tapes,
I want more
I want the underside of the table
That’s a garbage can
You don’t look into,
I want the sole
Of a soleless shoe,
I want the rattle in my pocket
From change at our corner store
For your mind is the darkness
I’ll stand in the dark for.

Ode to Coming Autumn (day 2690)

Your heart surely has emerged
Red, brown, orange seeds and grass
Each tree within the meadow glows
Floating on so merrily
Out in front of me.

Just as I can float away
Happily upon a thought of day
Your vision emerges out of mind
A lofty plan ahead, awaits.

Each growing breath of air
Sent from a new direction – North
Blows with it’s reminder to
Tuck away scattered growth
Inevitability of coming Autumn
I’ll prepare for your impending store.

Buying Supplies at the Building Store (day 2527)

We went in for a simple stud
Two by four by a little less than eight
Sixteen was all we needed
Then we found the clearance bin
And found a great deal on a hinge
Then the tape measure
With two sided measures
And a speed square now on sale!
So there we were with an invoice for
A load of lumber from the yard
And both our hands were balancing
Our finds at the building supplies store.

Intention (day 2056)

When did we lose the underground
The deep devils that wrecked things
That spray painted innocence away
And held up dirty slogans
On hand written signs
That didn’t follow general consensus.

I don’t understand you anymore
I hear words that make sense
But it doesn’t help me understand you any more
And like my shoes I found in a department store
That squeak like the others
I’m floating down easy street
With intention on my mind.

Am I this made up?
I’m growing angry at the devil’s draft
The experience I’ve left behind
Dry and balding, a sour glass
Chew me up and spit me out
Slap me with some beaver fat
I’m growing old and losing time
And I’m putting each sequence on a list
To burn up in tomorrow’s fire.

Did You Get the Bacon? (day 682)

I just wanted to tell you, you look nice today. Did you clean your coat?
No honey, it’s spring time! I’ve been swimming
Mmm. That’s why you’ve been smelling so delightful too!
Wally, did you remember to get the bacon at the store today?
Yes Waddle, it’s on the ice cooling, should I go get it?
I think that would be a great idea, I’m getting hungry, and you never know how long it will last with the neighbors kids out and about… Can you take the garbage out too Wally?
Yes dear, anything else?
Well, what would you like with the bacon for dinner?
Perhaps some salted home style potatoes? With some squid? Would that work?
Oh! Great idea, I think we still have some squid frozen in the freezer, could you grab that too?
Aye! I can smell it already!
