Foreign Style (day 1323)

Its weird walking through foreign soils
When all you have are memories
Of relics flickering through your mind,
And every corner you think you know
Turns out to be an unknown alcove;
When expected signs and monuments
Are entirely unrecognized and odd.
I find myself seeing ghosts of y’or
Wandering aimlessly just as I,
Who nod to me acknowledgement
As we both carry on our way.
Then just as in a fairy tale,
I come about my senses:
I find my store, I see my pal,
And we’re off to bring the night in style.

Mind Space (day 1278)

I want to fall into a little break in space
Like angels upon lazy-boys,
Smoking cigarettes with the nuns.
My open mind shifts constantly
Between a bad habit and good morning sun,
Where there’s no better maker,
No fuller shade of gray
To take care; once was into the future.
French rhymes upon my tongue,
Little tea cup stains around my working scribbler,
Two dollars for the road,
And my mind’s not made up yet.

Wind (day 1217)

I alter the states of my mind
To allow the gusts of thought pass
As if they had just become mingled
In a thousand cobwebs
That had secrets and truths
And memories long ago
Been buried in my parents back yard
Along side Angus, the family dog,
And Winne, our brown and white guinea pig.
This is where the present comes from,
Shifting from side to side
Hardened pieces of driftwood
And last years decaying perennials.
Wind may bend and curve my states of emotional madness,
My shifting moods and sands and magical feathers
That answer all of my questions,
But time roots all of these gusts
Into solid memories of the old arbutus
Clinging to mind when I close my eyes
And let the wind run through
These states of my mind.

Unmanned Headlights (day 1187)

Tunnel down this deep dark hole
With an un-handled shovel;
Unmanned I’m blinking headlights.

I lost mine up to my knees;
Life and dirt is blowin me.
Change is seasons we cannot see.

Two dollar bills and my coffee’s cold.
Dusty love-note’s fading mind,
It’s a dusty love-note’s dying time.

I’ve got a spotlight memory,
Driven by a crazy dream.
Unmanned headlights flickering.

Measures of the Mind (day 1134)

Don’t shake wisdom apart again
Like you’ve been carrying it
Upon a heart so strong.
Like a canvas yet painted
This is a crime eating time.
And if emptiness enjoys a lie
So grass grows long in a mother’s worry,
Let the sunset cleanse the sky
And soothe you’re ancient mind tonight.
In yesterday there’s a tomorrow,
In an island there’s some fun,
As every eye is an open window
Let this song be an empty gun.
With skies and broken arrows
Memories will get me home,
And your heart can mend the worn beyond
Any measure of your mind.
