Old Hound (day 3007)

There’s an old hound been hollerin’
Just outside my back door
Don’t got nothin’ for it
For I just ate my last meal
Cooked my beans on an open fire
That keeps sufferin’ to keep me warm.
Mighty hard to keep me warm
If I had more sense about me
I’d have opened up my back door
All I need is a little lovin’
A woman that keeps me warm
If I’d opened up my back door
But now it keeps gettin’ colder
So I’ll be movin’ on.

Tired (day 2347)

I’ve found this tired
That I’m afraid I cannot shake
My eyes feel glazed
And legs so weak
My shoulders are heavy
My breath does not penetrate
Deeply like true breathing should
Perhaps it’s from
Listlessness of life
Here out on the road
Wandering from meal to meal
No direction to be told
And I’m facing a runaway
Looking into the center of self
Exposed and pushing on.

On the Run (day 2282)

My hair is getting longer than
I care to let it get
But my teeth get brushed
And I shower in a tap
Near by every morning.
I haven’t seen a razor
Since I’ve left my sheeted bed
But I know life’s just right
The way I ride
An iron horse
Through the day’s open sky.
I’m on the run for bits of fun
And lots of seriousness
To find my own
In a land far off
Where I’ll know no one again.
I eat my meals by picnic bench
And chop my food with a pocket knife
And fall to sleep nearly every night
As the sky says it’s goodnight.
