A Free Soldier (day 654)

A lost soldier makes his way home
Elsewhere, grenades go off in combat
Where trenches are dug deep into earth
Casually the soldier wanders home
Through orchards full of fresh fruit
Through rolling country hills
And friendly strangers minding
Their own important business
Along double track dirt roads
Fields of flowers for napping carelessly
And picking, one hangs loose about his shirt pocket
Heavy combat coat flung freely about his shoulder
Fresh cut grass sends over the valley
A smell so potent and refreshing
Even the young birds come stay for a visit
Enjoying the new horizons created
By the arching suns daily pattern
Carrying it’s essence onward
Into the mind of the young soldier
Making his way home away from battle
In peace so strong a hand from nowhere reaches out
And assures him that all will be right
And walks him onward, into the light

Desire (day 260)

Blown in with the leaves of time
Strewn out like paper discarded
Elapsed like the growing grass

But still there escapes no figurative talk
No lively-hood of lust that escapes the drivel
Onward and upward in a spiral inward
Left for the ransacking
Two lone bowls of fruit
Monotonous in content
But alive with desire in substance

And then the snow begins to fall
Pulling with it a breath of relief
Inward it seeks for that calming nerve

The Start (day 65)

A new beginning starts at the end
A fallen log births once again
A cloud that forms, fades to mist
A sun that shines falls behind

And most of all
In powers of shame
I lie awake
Feeding the pain

A new day arrives, slowly at first
A yawn awaits with splashing exuberance
A blend erupts of the choicest fruits
A hoodwinked scallywag pokes out the door

Just a Lucky Fruit Basket (day 21)

A bliss of serene beauty
Floats on through the fruit isle
Making her way past
Mangoes, apples, and nectarines
Stopping to selectively select
One lucky banana
To grace her green basket
Expertly balanced
With succulent delicacies

Ahoy! Not the chicken breasts!
No, they are much too expensive
There’s a much better deal
On the value priced pork pack
It’s a little bit much, I know
For one tiny girl to consume
So I will not advise you
You’re choice, I’m sure, will bake well
With those sweet potatoes you’ve got

I can’t help but notice
You’ve chosen the bulk food section
It’s my favorite part here
Of this massive grocer
The selection is weak
But still, enough to excite
Although your dried cranberries
Make me wonder about you
I’d much prefer the chocolate covered peanuts myself

I agree with you totally
Balsamic vinegar is essential
For most any dish made
For that right bit of flavor
I tend to try it
When my food feels dry
Maybe a bad habit
For me to carry on
But I like that you like it, it’s made my day
