Wander To Withdraw (day 3049)

I wandered here as if lost
One eye on the path
The other asking my Gods
What makes a Man a Man.
I saw sunlight between the boughs
I saw spiders in their webs
I saw the great Fir’s bark
So cavernous and traversed.
I felt deep inside my heart
The partridge that took flight;
So close and thunderous,
So quickly she was off.
I saw the dam the busy Beaver built
Saw his second one too
Which made me feel like an invader
A secret nest so wild.
Then I turned at a landmark
Headed towards where I knew
And back to my familiar trail
To home I then withdrew.

Sunshine (day 1919)

Would you be a heart that will call out?
Shoes so familiar
Like eyes closed into sunshine,
And memories that float into this blank space –
Too happy to change it –
For we’ve started to understand
That tomorrow never comes,
And all we can hold on to
Is the ball clanging around wildly
Inside what we close our eyes to guard against.
This isn’t a memory,
This is pure unabashed and secret dreaming…
A love that screams to come out,
And I’m walking through the madness
With a hope to one day find my way out.

Fresh Scent (day 764)

My feet, stripped and bare
Cooling in the fresh mountain stream
Two dogs about me
Shaking away the fresh feeling
Water, licking my shins
And getting colder
Fresh scent of the familiar
Cloves and horse shit
But it’s summer
And this is the stuff that feels good

What Is (day 390)

I am not a wanderer
I am a traveler
I am a hand in the air
I am a stone in your path
I am a walking stick
I am a familiar scent
I am a highway song
I am a journey long
I am a worn shoe
I am a singletrack
I am a favorite song
I am a warm jacket

How does it feel?
