Free Man (day 2240)

I am letting go my reason
Turning open my vessel
My heart no longer caged
A soldier standing on the front line
Battle worn and still alive
Thriving in throngs of passion
Arrow plucked and bow taught
Whisper goes out to my gods
Eyes falling into ecstasy
Smiling with little worry
Reason blending into action
Stepping out a free man.

She (day 2239)

She isn’t mine
She wasn’t born to me
She’s never betrothed me
Or sat long with me
Or held my hand
In the palm of her soul
She hasn’t kissed me
Or held me late at night
Nor deeply shared
Or deeply cared
She hasn’t phoned me
Or mentioned me longingly
She’s never sang to me
Or cleansed herself for me
She’s never prepared for me
Nor cooked for me
She’s not signed a letter to me
Nor wished for me
She’s never looked me over
Or looked deeply into my eyes
She hasn’t witnessed me
She’s never said goodbye to me
But I still know her
And she makes me smile.

Mind (day 2235)

My mind does not equal out
What words I’ve had to say
So I, ashamed, shall walk away
Meditate again for a strong vision.
For in the land of hesitation
I cannot succumb to temptation
That leads my heart down a well tread path
Far away from where I want to roam.
Does gloom ever overcome you?
Locked ten thousand dreams away
We shall hold our minds to answer
We shall bow down deep forever.

Weathered (day 2209)

Wished I was a saint
Took my cane with me to work
Held on to a weathered hand
Was caught out in the rain

Left a symbol in the earth
Growth that clouded all designs
Held on to a weathered hand
Ate my heart out in the sun

Giving to little was my lonely grave
Lest beggars break in to settle my nerves
Held on to a weathered hand
There I lay saddened by time

Memory (day 2207)

The day was half over
Filled with drunks and half wits
That slowly dislodged the sane ties
Holding what edges of reason I had together
I flipped the channel
Inhaled deeply
Groaned with anticipation
And slowly leaked what thick blood I had
Into a mason jar
Ready to be placed close
To lost bits of memory
I never knew were gone.

To Stand (day 2199)

Thought I was the one, man
Took every last dime
Crawled away in darkness
Head hung not so high
Wished upon a night sky
For strength to stand my way
How many more upsets
Must I leave away in earnest
Take my hands from the cutting block
I’m still able to stand
But I thought I was the one
And here I am still a man.

Canyon, Pilgrim (day 2190)

Take me to the canyon, Pilgrim
Along a dusty trail
My pack mule’s been dying, Sir
For a thirst that’s never quenched.

Mine me all your gold now
Deep below the belt
Mind me as your prospector
I’ll be clearing all your debts.

I’ve been buildin’ ladders to
Mexico in a bottle
I’ve been runnin’ through my picaxe
And my hands sing rawhide.

One more round ‘for I go down
One to kill the dust
Maybe my day’ll come soon
I’ll fill my final thirst.

Ancient Seabird (day 2179)

When wounds of Ancient Seabird
Flush over each cresting wave
A reverie ensues
Collected with raindrops
From ocean condensation.
Mother cries, laments,
Spreads her tears
Into spraying breeze
That wafts over heralded rocks
Sentinels standing guard
Waiting for the bleeding
To dampen each succulent
Feeding fears forgotten
And the breath
Of Ancient Seabird.
