Winter came
Now the storm has passed
But your touch
No longer here
But in our hearts
Your soul lives strong
Forever so close
So dear
That when I close
My eyes I hear
How loudly
Your soul
Did shine
Tag: winter
Rotting Extinction (day 3170)
There were no more ways for the buffalo to roam
Fences stopped their grazing and wild land migration
Farmers began to cultivate their food with chemicals
And soon they became desired by man for their very skin
That kept them warm through the winter
Leaving the only thing they couldn’t be robbed of
Their soul, their wild and herd driven soul
Alone, rotting on the fields forever.
In This Moment (day 3059)
I’ve unlocked the post of my field
The damn bookend that holds the seal
Has gone away with the morning hues of red.
I walked out into the winter storm
To feed the animals inside of me
A broken button healed my heart
And two burners boiled my water.
So just as my ticker has begun to tock
I’m whispering my odes to oaks,
I’m dressed in my Sunday best
To forget the truth of tomorrow.
Work Begun (day 3026)
This is my work that I’ve begun
Raspy hands and sore back
Set the tone for my inner heart
Mending this land as best I learn.
Wood’s been slung
Blocked and chopped
Stacked all up for winter’s dry
Cows are fed, so too the goats
That call out now to greet my cheer.
So then come the neighbours who
Have each their own spread
Landing as they do
Amidst the green atop the ground
Growing as the earth’s own.
This is my work that I’ve begun
Recollected by the stone hearth
Fired and warm, and dinner’s on
Longest night, shortest day.
Anti (day 3010)
I spoke to you before the call came
Before wind swept the landscape
As barren as the cold snow felt.
I listened to you inside my soul
Open hands and an open heart
Hearing your words,
Your doubly whispered thoughts
Detailed glances
And hands that held a universe of emotions.
I waited for your touch
Like a tall Spruce tree waits out Winter,
Bowing at engagements,
Reflexing against the pressure,
Silently bearing the mounting
Depth of moonlight and dropping temperature
With a full and well understanding
That with it shall come its anti.
Brown (day 2938)
The winter womb enshrined in me:
Closed it’s gnarled old hands,
Whispered to me dirty nothings
– Coffee soaked and stained.
Leaves fell all around my shoes,
Lost against the wind
And grass that grew
Began to blow
A lighter shade of brown.
Winter Depths (day 2848)
I found you in the winter depths
Of my forgotten heart, so bare
That lost me in an avalanche
Succumbed to all buried hurt
To slide away and wait.
Then one cold morning
As I sat alone by my fire
Hardly warming my frozen soul
I heard a voice so low
That whispered to me a secret truth
I didn’t want to hear
That finished freezing of my heart
And under I went for good.
Oak Leaves (day 2820)
It is a problem,
For I have not found it here yet.
Spires have taken my holiness
Unaccounted for,
Untrained,
Un-restricted.
Like a dove in flight,
But without regret.
There shall be no more passion,
No more emotional choices.
So it lays thus, solid and lifeless,
Awaiting a deep agony,
A lifeless sympathy,
That shall agree with
No more of this world
And of its gains.
Floundered,
Spinning into earth
Yet leaving marks: vivid,
As the Oak leaf stays
Through Winter.
Lost (day 2789)
Do you hold
Keys to remember?
Vanishing blossoms
Winter trees
Rush of water…
And lost it is,
All on me.
Reverie (day 2761)
Destiny took my hand away
Like a leaf upon the meadow
Floating and opaque amidst
Ten thousand blowing stalks.
A river sprung from sweet Gaia
Hard Winter’s brought again
There to find me upon a knoll
Lost in reverie.
