Shadow Tower (day 2330)

She rustled her leaves back and forth
Sweeping a nation of winter
Through the villages below.

How could they feel
This anger, hatred
Without winter closing upon them?

Darkness in a tower
Shadows lingering longer
Than daylight had planned.

Whispers were shrieks
To those unshielded ears
Unbowed, unobedient.

Children not yet warned
Would stare in awe
Horrific shadows cast.

Amidst harsh coldness
Sat iron gates, locked
Winter, forever exposed.

Queen of the North Sea
Angular and majestic
Ruthless and cold.

Ode to the Big Cedar (day 1759)

I looked up to wonder
How many years has your bark
Entangled your sinuous heart,
The very fibers of your girth
And timber, thick.
How long have you towered
Above the rest of your
Brothers and sisters
Reminding them through a good example
Of how big and strong they can yet grow?
And my mind runs along your vertical stripes
To follow the years of your growth
I count the markings
The lateral indicators
Of a healthy year or a false start.
And if I listen carefully as I stroll on by
I can hear you whispering my name
Reminding me of why I came,
And to whom I owe this poem.

Slithering Madness (day 818)

Don’t cry into an uneven pillbox
Shuffling against the rainbow mirrors
I can see you shifting madly
I can see your soul aglow
Haven’t you seen my stardust
I left it by the tower
It’s pounded into them
Some recesses out at sea
But if you’ve come to know me
Then cry at my back doors
For I shall treat you kindly
Without qualm or unnecessary greed
Dive with me into madness
And sugar coat it as we play
