Busy at the Crossroads (day 1173)

Before too much longer I had remembered what I had left home to find,
And it was at that exact moment my memory served me most correct.
I could only get there one step at a time
To a rhythm that was rolling like a Bob Dylan rhyme.

The scene wasn’t written in the papers, nor was it written down in time.
I was left with dried pens smashed up against my soul,
Where my concert was mid-encore;
Pinnacle of loudly unspoken madness.

Large Oak trees to my South side, Highlands to the North.
I’ve been busting these long clouds with my pointed perfection
Rattling off my unchained fancy-foot tongue.
And here I am all bustling around.

Last Slice of Pie (day 1014)

This is not loneliness
Locked in an out-of-the-way cupboard
This is not misery
Straddled between once was and what will never be
This is life
One step after the other
Flooding with memories and hard times
Good days with lineups of lovers
And loss with too abrupt endings.
There are no inanimate objections,
There are no distractions or black out times,
It remains the good and the bad,
And one last slice of pie.

Current’s Edge (day 990)

I walk my freedom with long bold steps
– Passionate about underlying rocks,
Saturated in air; fluid, full, exhilarating –
To my captures edge: sin and sorrow.
“DEFINE MY PATH!” From the tops of my lungs,
Knocking at doors of suffering madness
That tied these knots upon my bare feet.
It’s a long walk along hurt’s path,
A long breath to hold, withdraw,
With destiny, located amidst rubble.

It’s a long walk to freedom,
Blistering sores and stained reason.
Along my gall’s edge I protest,
Along gall’s edge I step,
And in this path I do not quiver,
I do not shake with torrent sadness,
For to my edge [my sin and sorrow],
I stare with will, my choice and I,
Into the void, my current’s capture,
And let flow from the tops of my lungs.

Senses (day 533)

Thank you for the breath that I breathe
For the grass that grows green
And then dies in the fall

Thank you for the eyes that give me color
Shades of the rainbow from the sun
And white from the cold

Thank you for the smell from my nose
Fresh turkey from the oven
And wet paint on a canvas

Thank you for the strength in my bones
That lead me into tomorrow
With every step that I take

Thank you for the touch at my fingertips
Dancing happily over exposed skin
Searching blindly in the dark

Thank you for the thought that I think
Setting my plans and my goals
And being blessed with love in my heart

..And the Cars Wisp By (day 252)

Perhaps there will be solace in the long walks upon this city
When only the pale fluorescent light above illuminates my casual walk
Sombre walk at best

When the mopey soldier drags his cuffs along the cold earth
Saying with every unconscious step further into the distance
“I’ve seen this before”

..and the cars wisp by
..and the cars wisp by

Lazy goes the spray of the fine elements of this earth
Counting the seconds as gravity pulls their souls back to where they once sat quiet
But it doesn’t hurt

Forget about the sound of the screaming bomb working its way south
Hurtling into a fearful state of recognition
Devoid of life we soar

The fog, and this light. There is no fog that this light cannot burn
There is no memory of the last time we held hands
Sombre as we walk past
