Dirty Secret (day 632)

For a while there I was thinking of quitting you
My dirty secret
My dungeon of love
Your united sound log
Your division of hope
I pushed you forth without ever knowing
Then you tossed away the breaking point
And spat it all across the roxy red chairs
Peanuts and gamblers
Standing around
Betting on sure things laid out to waste
Frothing animals with strapping young lads Riding their backs
Challenging each poser who attempts to stretch into the lead
Corners and white rails with grass always green
And a little buggy trailer that spins once around
Chasing some distant smell out in the grains
Smell that fooled no one that came out of the benches
Punching through lost bottles and dribbles of spit
Discarded score cards with random numbers
Little numbers, faint numbers, broken numbers, black numbers
Doors swing wildly here without much aim
Ghosts come and go, lost without a name
And in all the hallways one can hear the distant thunder
Of heels pounding against the ground

Mittens (day 513)

Blitz that awkward mother fucker
Lost in some kind of pre-pubescent bliss
Thinking the toadstools are real
Living in a fantasy world
Gamble your life away to a blind princess
Who listen with her wallet
Dying sweet surrenders
As she picks apart her next innocent victims
Don’t you watch the business son?
Lord’s saying your nickel’s no longer good here
You put your peanuts next to mine
I, who sit here with diamonds in my eyes
Falling through loop holes and digging through broken bones
You aint got no footsteps here son
Now put on your mittens and find your way home

Just a Lucky Fruit Basket (day 21)

A bliss of serene beauty
Floats on through the fruit isle
Making her way past
Mangoes, apples, and nectarines
Stopping to selectively select
One lucky banana
To grace her green basket
Expertly balanced
With succulent delicacies

Ahoy! Not the chicken breasts!
No, they are much too expensive
There’s a much better deal
On the value priced pork pack
It’s a little bit much, I know
For one tiny girl to consume
So I will not advise you
You’re choice, I’m sure, will bake well
With those sweet potatoes you’ve got

I can’t help but notice
You’ve chosen the bulk food section
It’s my favorite part here
Of this massive grocer
The selection is weak
But still, enough to excite
Although your dried cranberries
Make me wonder about you
I’d much prefer the chocolate covered peanuts myself

I agree with you totally
Balsamic vinegar is essential
For most any dish made
For that right bit of flavor
I tend to try it
When my food feels dry
Maybe a bad habit
For me to carry on
But I like that you like it, it’s made my day
