Early Morning Hour

In the early morning hour
Wind seems to lay down
Rising sun sets out to warm
Every frosty blade of grass
And when my horse is saddled up
I mount my trusty steed to roam
Every bit of our home range
To find my cows and learn the land
For my life I’m setting out
Warm coffee in the morning
Another day to go about
In this early morning hour.

Tender Choice (day 3082)

I’m resting in a pool of blood
Taken my very veins
No longer am the man I was
Lost and listless thus I lay.
Once I had dreams so high
Freedom wasn’t just a word
But way of life we embraced truly
From choices we made every day
And a mindspace free of ads.
We called our neighbour each by name
With smiles so friendly we meant
And let our hair go wildly long
A symbol of better days spent.
And in our work, we called none work
For we smiled as we took our crafts
Each craftsman became their tools
Towards a need fulfilled.
We lost this great desire for grandeur
This misleading pretense
Veiling over all of humanity
Since human has become ruled
By magnetic storage and liquid display.
We lost grandeur
And picked up gravitas
Our guiding star
Hands to our hammers.
But now, says I in earnest,
Laying in my pool of blood,
What hath become of mine choice?
So tenderly awake no more.

Defiantly Apart (day 3074)

Do you know that I’m here?
I want to know that you’re here
I want to feel your breath
Upon my naked shoulder
Staying strong
For the burden I do lay
So that I can be your man.
I want my bed to feel accompanied
By your bones that thump into me,
I want to squeeze
What your body throws at me,
And I want to believe
What I already know
The truth I have already seen
Deep within your eyes
That look back at me
Sometimes defiantly.

Ode To My Favourite Pen (day 3067)

I found you down a darkened road
Construction and rainy smells
Inside an old historic building
In to what felt like a historic store.
The walls were lined
With countless pens
And items supporting pens,
All illuminated so eloquently
Showcasing the finest specimens
Any penman could want.
In here I walked back and forth,
And fellow patrons wandered deep in thought,
Where finally in the deepest corner
I found you resting on a stand
Not a fingerprint laid your barrel.

And now so many years have passed
Yet not once have you let me down
Though the world we’ve traveled by foot
No wear shows upon your barrel,
Your nib a perfect flow.
And your mark has been inscribed
On countless pads sent afar
With, what I believe, quite an exquisite touch
Unique to me, my penman mark
You so critically help me lay.
I look and hold you every day,
Proud to know you by feel and weight
To have you by my side,
And to know that when I need you most
You’ll be right where I lay you down
Ready with your perfect balance
Upon paper we do play.

Handwritten (day 2838)

I want to lay away your story
Into my eloquent pages so designed.
For I am in no time missing
Each sentence you’ve so led amiss,
No grammatical trickery
To bequeath this budding rose
– Thorny and apical –
In transcendence I have only dreamed.
There, so I shall then pass
And accompany you upon this waltz
Through tapestry written
Upon each lazy leaflet
Dangling it’s feelings
Upon these even walking grounds
Handwritten for our love.

Cry as You Want (day 2503)

I have called out the ghosts of my wisdom
Lay them down upon the brow of my thought
Spoke to them like a soldier at his challenge
And a mother facing all of her fears

Cry as you want for the sun that has gone
But tomorrow it shall come again, my friend.

Bend around the world we cannot see
For it speaks to us subliminally
A coward backs away from what wants to consume
Stronger yet is that which stands up with a raised fist.

Cry as you want for the sun that has gone
But tomorrow it shall come again, my friend.

Dancing There Again (day 1232)

So there I lay,
And I was hardly born.
To be one and unconfirmed,
Lost and sadly looking down.
But skinny love yelled my name
From two street blocks down the road,
To my wrecking ball of unforgiven,
To my memories of simple love.
Like a midnight starscape,
I was ending all my pauses
With a thousand wonder whys.
To be dancing there again.

Raw (day 974)

Feed me with your silken magic
Light me up through the night
I’ve lived before…
To live another again

So let’s lay high, girl,
Make it last all night.
Let’s send our worries far, girl
Play for me your sweetest song.

No crying round here, honey
Pure smiles in all through these parts.
Boogy woogy things baby,
We got it real goin on.
