Timothy Solik-Starkenhauser (day 759)

It is my duty
As I stand here before you
On all four of my legs
To alert you
Of the chance
That there might be
If it were to come to that
A certain plan
In existence
That has a chance to formulate
If the stars align right
A dangerous misgiving
And I being the cautious type
Which we all know I am
For I’ve never mislead you
In all my years as 1st Watch
Strong as my shell
I’m honest like it’s strength
Believe that as a pod
If you take to calling us that
We should cautiously eye
The discusser of plans
Who weaves his vicious web
Amongst and between
This pods close knit peas
And even if it be deemed so
Amongst this pod of such strength
This pod of honest courage
We should seek to cast out
This weaver of plans
This curse of the time
This abominable creature
That has already done
So much damage to our pod
Our once strong pod of grace
And it happens that such
In this honest turtle’s mind
Of the 1st Watch command
Far too much stress
Put upon us by his mess
Has rooted it’s evil
In all our good deeds
Pitted our conscience
Up against our own existence
And now as we gather here
All peas in a pod
We must beware of this evil
We’re slowly realizing
But slow is not the problem
It’s actions that are needed
I know it’s around us
Since I’ve seen it in your eyes

Great, so we understand then?

Where the Wild Buttercups Grow (day 723)

Have you ever been where the wild buttercup grows?
Up past the fence where the cattle don’t go
There’s an oak tree there sheltering a patch
Of clovers so thick, of ground so cool

I don’t go back there often since I’ve moved away
The house has changed now, green house is blue
But when I do go up to where the buttercups grow
An overgrown path where the big old oak stays

I remember in ’24 Mary-Lou and I walked
Up to the meadow where the buttercups grow
We sat on the sunny side of the old oak tree
Upon the checkered blanket we brought with the wine

But lovers they come and some of them go
And the buttercups always continue to grow
Up in the meadow where the wild oak grows
Past the old fence where the cows don’t go

Summer Fun (day 708)

Today’s a new day
Birds on my way
Around in the park
Amidst old fallen bark

I walk for my health
Native American stealth
Dipping and dashing
Jumping and splashing

Warm weather’s blowing
Gone is the snowing
Green shoots are showing
Life begins glowing

Where naked the trees
In cool winter’s breeze
Soon shall be covered
Green nature’s sheltered

Yellow shifts away
Natural aging and decay
Spring change has begun
Anticipate summer fun!

I Walked Alone Today (day 659)

I walked alone today
Through a snowy path
Amongst birch trees
That have no leaves
Pine and Fir are there
Ensuring nature stays green

Along this path
I walked today
Thoughts sprung forth
Delight… dismay
Yet still hard to think
As I wandered further
Battling 20 cm or so

It snowed today
Coming down in droves
Falling lightly on my mind
As I passed along
The spot where the old
Lady fell the other day

I walked alone today
As if transfixed by spell
Lightness of air
Easing the worried thoughts
Fluttering through my hair
And landing on the tips
Of every particle reaching out
To helping me on my way
