Whispers from My Tongue (day 1115)

This sky, and whispers from my tongue
Through fights: torrents and storms.

I wonder what shakes them forth…

So then my whispers should linger
Like my footsteps echo through these halls;
Cobblestone roads and rickety signs,
Darkness offset by lanterns dancing with my mind.

I let it shake and I cannot sigh,
For winter’s warmth stayed awake today
To brandish my armor as I let them fly
Upon winds that returned my whispers.

Valley’s Echo (day 1113)

Your heart is not a valley away,
Nor a diamond left unbought.
Though time discovers all our pain,
Lifting our sins to meet the eye,
To shatter history spent in plans.
To know is like a misspent truth;
To touch the wings of a butterfly;
To give up on the fight.
Where I’m left standing,
Yelling: “My heart is on my sleeve.”
Which I’m not here to wear,
I am here to give alone.
Where I hear the valley’s echo.

2013.08 - Mount Robson (61 of 496)

Old English Accent (day 782)

It wasn’t too long ago that I
Wandering through fields waist high
Came upon one friendly blade of grass
That spoke to me in old English decree
Thus like:

Forsooth it is thy jolly Lombard
Erect in flight of recent folly
That doth not retire grand ambition
That doth not spare no damsel plight
Amongst thy gallows of conquered fate
Whence settling down amongst thou bromus
He contemplates his recent fight
And not one hour should pass thy penance
When thou stumblt upon a gift that gave
So lovely displayed be suit noble court
Of kindly and jolly King Edward the IV.
And in this gift so deep a sentiment
Earl Warwick, himself! ere be knelt
The gift to seekers shall be found
Not in man’s work but in mankind
Thou gift is also found upon
Thy brow of revelations crown

And to this joy that I’d now found
While wandering to and then to fro
Reciting, by name, the grass that grew
Here I would learn to love anew

North Thompson Field of Hay

Colonel Frédéric Joseph Archilles Beautenieul (day 740)

Hello my brave and valiant soldiers
At attention here before me
It is my duty today
To inform you of the
Change in sentiment exhibited
By superiors
To declare peace with the world
[insert cheers here]
After 8 years of brave battles
Valiant feats in combat
Extraordinary efforts
And a death toll I dare not count
But may god speed each one of them
[moment of remembrance]
After two weeks of discussions
Behind closed doors
Between both sides of this war
The decision has been made to cease fire
And sort out our differences
With policy changes and peace
[insert cheers here]
This resolution is encouraging
For the future of mankind
With peaceful measures taken
And cooperation in this world
Though we are soldiers
Hardened through years of combat
We fight for peace
Not to smell more blood
[murmur of agreement]
We will remain engaged
At our current bases
Secured around this land
For precautionary measures
Set in place to demobilize the zones
Troops will be sent out
To deactivate bombs,
Warheads, missiles
Any explosives laid in the ground
In this land we’ve all come to know so well
We do not want to have these years of war
Pockmarking this land we’ve all come to know
With dangers and explosives
That can effect generations to come
This will be our main job now
Of which we will carry out
For a time of one year
Upon completion, the situation will be reevaluated
And if deemed appropriate
The orders will be given
To return to our homeland
Return to our families
And end bloodshed
[insert cheers here]
At ease soldiers
The war is over
[insert cheers here]

History Sleeps (day 688)

And your swords
Heel’t by the pressures of oath
Forcing thought from mind
Into duty, sworn and bred

~

It is here where deceit grows
Amongst the cobwebs of freedom
Faith of the free
Growing dissonance

~

But straightened backs
And freshly pressed regalia
Adorned with pride and service
Calm thy boiling blood

~

Hindered with loathe
Confidants biding their time
In halls of betrayal
Seething with ego

Unnatural betrayal hidden
Behind blind eyes of service
Suckling the easy tit of
Mephistopheles

~

While memories float frequently
Between graying hairs
And balding victories
Scavenging the lands of truth

Relying on honor
A choice and a path
Not a reason or calling
But inward honesty

~

Though demons fight unceasingly
Through hushed dark corridors
Escape routes of the squeamish
Icicles of setting winter

~

Until the end remains clear
Ancient avenues of chestnut trees
Above the family crypt
History sleeps as change begins

If There Was No War (day 685)

If there was no war
Lions and cheetahs as friends
And if there was no war
Chimpanzees would sure be free
If there was no war
My happy feet’d take me to thee
‘Cause I’ve got love baby
Love enough for you and me

Can you image life without a wall
No distraught to make it tall
Or foes to climb at all
It’d sure be a funny thing
Calling what mine mine
When the whole world was shared
Yours and mine together you see
Friends at last we’d always be

If there was no war
No holes would mark and scar the land
And if there was no war
No poppy would be remembering for
If there was no war
My happy feet’d take me to thee
‘Cause I’ve got love baby
Love enough for you and me

Now if there was no war
No war to pick our pockets for
And if there was no war
No war for few to fight the many
If there was no war
My dog would open up the door
Welcome in the buffalo
Roaming wild and free
A sea of peace for you and me

Warrior Cry (day 567)

I’ve tried to pull the gun a thousand times before
Planning with unending tenacity
Sifting through the dusty pages of yesterdays notes
While I watch my brothers pull away with theirs
I see the champions hold their trophies proud
And still I cry for justice to revenge
I struggle with my ends that dare cut down the strings
That weave a heavy cobweb like the clouds above
I try with intelligence to seal away my fate
To push my luck with effort after work
But still as I pray upon my victims: few

Then out of the dark
A lone warrior cry rings
That brother of lust
The one that was lost
Gathers his weapons
And races off to the fight

Lair (day 401)

I have come from afar to find myself here
Stuck in the middle of a lions lair
I’ve grown mighty weary of the complacent man
Happy to crowd where they can’t get around
But I in my ways have escaped the tirade
Sent all the occult peddling their assault
Off to the gardens to fight with the gods
And I shall reside here, with cup and a pad
To write down my guises, as they spew forth tonight
Perhaps I shall soon then, get a call from afar
That then shall be fine, I shall heed as they call
For the lion that does not roar, is merely a cat

Smokeless (day 339)

Peacefully I close my eyelids
Lay my sweet caress into the pits unknown
Put my legs upon the ground beyond
Perhaps too long to play the game
Perhaps too short to feel the rest

At the wheel the cool breeze stirs
Something inside that’s closed it’s mouth
Grip tight, lay waste the fight
Perhaps the gun’s been oiled tonight;
Leave smokeless, devour your plight

Onwards and upwards we float with the light
Little traces of emptiness flickering like firelight
And I with my pens, you with your swords
Scrounging up regret like it’s found in the back
Perhaps then, alone and bitter, I will…
