To you we just quiver
But to us we are champions
We have the ultimate
In safety and defense

Imagine, a ball of spikes
Impregnable
Undesirable
Very non-tasty

But our noses we each
Have such pinkness delight
And toes with our claws
Soft bellies underneath

And in our deep sleep
We curl into a ball
Relaxing our quills
Exposing a petite nose

We are a peaceful bunch
Sleeping all day
We rummage around
Without much of a noise

And if we are lucky
If our owners feel
To let us roam free
We roam wild and happy!

It isn’t that the seasons take away my pleasures I bask in in the summer; running carelessly about the fences and jumping from branch to branch. No.

It isn’t the shade from the sun, nor the darkest of clouds that hover over horizons I see from the top of these branches in this place I call home. No.

It isn’t the infestation of caterpillars that slither their way into every single crevice I’ve ever held dear to me and my family, eating away the lush green leaves that paint the exterior of my home. No.

It isn’t the bears the rummage in my little piles of stores I’ve secured away for winter lengths, nor the beavers that take my home for theirs. No.

It’s that blasted dog that jumps every single time he sees me, barreling away at the highest speeds to bark me all the way up the tree.

But, I suppose that I do provoke him with my constant chattering and taunting…

Is to divine
An elegance few are born with
Even fewer are born into

Float along proud and majestic
Understand it is a special moment

It is my duty
As I stand here before you
On all four of my legs
To alert you
Of the chance
That there might be
If it were to come to that
A certain plan
In existence
That has a chance to formulate
If the stars align right
A dangerous misgiving
And I being the cautious type
Which we all know I am
For I’ve never mislead you
In all my years as 1st Watch
Strong as my shell
I’m honest like it’s strength
Believe that as a pod
If you take to calling us that
We should cautiously eye
The discusser of plans
Who weaves his vicious web
Amongst and between
This pods close knit peas
And even if it be deemed so
Amongst this pod of such strength
This pod of honest courage
We should seek to cast out
This weaver of plans
This curse of the time
This abominable creature
That has already done
So much damage to our pod
Our once strong pod of grace
And it happens that such
In this honest turtle’s mind
Of the 1st Watch command
Far too much stress
Put upon us by his mess
Has rooted it’s evil
In all our good deeds
Pitted our conscience
Up against our own existence
And now as we gather here
All peas in a pod
We must beware of this evil
We’re slowly realizing
But slow is not the problem
It’s actions that are needed
I know it’s around us
Since I’ve seen it in your eyes

Ahh but I’ve been trying you see
To excel at all my studies
I am, after all, a studious beast
Studying all day, as it is
I’ve picked up some secrets
Theories and quantifications
Which makes sense, if you think about it
Complete sense when taken in context
But without questions
There are no answers to logically justify
So then when you ask
Should I be asking you questions?
“Of course!” I shall answer
It is but a trifle upon my abilities
No hindrance to my day at all
To answer you with vigor
Responding to your inquiry
For in the end
Without my knowledgeable responses
What good would my studying be?
How just are my studies
If I do not share them
Impart what I’ve learned on eager ears
Surely it’s a fools game
To withhold knowledge
From the inquisitor
Assuming the inquisition
Isn’t a dispute over whether or not
My head should remain on it’s comfortable perch

But, you can climb better than any bird

Mom, will I ever learn to sing a song?
-no dear, not like the birds that you hear
But, sounds you can make is music to my ears

Mom, are we really the devil’s animal?
-no dear, not anything near to it
But, it will do you good to be cautious of your ways

Mom, will I ever become bad and devil like?
-no dear, you’re heart will always be where you place it
But, that is not to say you can not become

Mom, will this tree always be our home?
-no dear, humans will cut these trees soon
But, we will move on and build a new home

Mom, will I always stay this small?
-no dear, you will grow up to be a very fine sloth
But, you must remember to eat your vegetables to ensure it

At attention here before me
It is my duty today

Change in sentiment exhibited

To declare peace with the world

After 8 years of brave battles
Valiant feats in combat
Extraordinary efforts
And a death toll I dare not count
But may god speed each one of them
[moment of remembrance]
After two weeks of discussions
Behind closed doors
Between both sides of this war
The decision has been made to cease fire
And sort out our differences
With policy changes and peace

This resolution is encouraging
For the future of mankind
With peaceful measures taken
And cooperation in this world
Though we are soldiers
Hardened through years of combat
We fight for peace
Not to smell more blood
[murmur of agreement]
We will remain engaged
At our current bases
Secured around this land
For precautionary measures
Set in place to demobilize the zones
Troops will be sent out
To deactivate bombs,
Warheads, missiles
Any explosives laid in the ground
In this land we’ve all come to know so well
We do not want to have these years of war
Pockmarking this land we’ve all come to know
With dangers and explosives
That can effect generations to come
This will be our main job now
Of which we will carry out
For a time of one year
Upon completion, the situation will be reevaluated
And if deemed appropriate
The orders will be given
To return to our homeland
Return to our families
And end bloodshed
