My actions are clear
But my mind is jumbled
My thoughts are strong
But my words are mumbled
Dear Lord, find me an understanding
Letting go of all left behind me
Embracing what I keep forever learning
Sitting down as world keeps spinning
My actions are clear
But my mind is jumbled
My thoughts are strong
But my words are mumbled
Dear Lord, find me an understanding
Letting go of all left behind me
Embracing what I keep forever learning
Sitting down as world keeps spinning
Let them pass over me and through me
Let them ooze away
Let the stars pick at them
And stardust figment them
Let my heart be calm
And thoughts pleasant
Laid upon a rock to dry
Happy and untroubled
Hanging on to a special gift
Love bundled into a box
Cradled between idle fingers
Tracing out a pentagon
Dangling from your neck so light
A figure un-named, divine
Keeping space for every spell
Rumbling from within
How long have you suffered
Waiting there so burdened
Run your eyes a little longer
Down the road whence you came
No stranger stopping to say goodbye
No mail left in the box
Chopping as if petrified
At the meat about your ankles
Sitting quietly to the side
Two dogs with no former home
Inviting windows
Forever blues
Tormenting wind
I want to live into a better one
Where you don’t understand me
And my fear amounts to nothing
Since I’ve begun to leave droplets
Along the paths I take
With hopes that a sweet Angel
Will find her way to me
Where I’ve stopped dreaming
That my illusions will ever depart
Fog amidst the valley below
Where midday sun finds escape
Sweet Angel, shall she stay?
Save me from getting old
Your fingers forever a sacred chalice
To which my lifeline shall be caught
As I freely let
Unto the fingers that touch me so.
I shall not shy away
From this touch you lay upon
Skin so stretched as leaves turn gold
Save me from getting old.
I don’t know how to say I love you
Without loving you entirely, Lisa
I pace back and forth in my room
Questioning myself like a mathematician
Struggling out the answer to
A deepened understanding.
Some days it’s ok, I can love you
Without desiring the distance we’ve never had,
The whisper in your ear,
The smile that finds your lips
Too close to mine for latent desire
Stirring within the very breath I take.
So I love you with trembling fingers
Tentatively resisting your jungleness,
I love you though I’m calculating
With a pen I’m expertly etching
A solution to you entirely open
On a boat in the great wide ocean.
I don’t want to hold onto this enormous feeling.
A Skeptic once said the past isn’t present,
So let us believe that a fullness isn’t real
(A limit we reach where we can no longer give, share, believe),
Let this feeling take us on a tenderness stroll
Like sheer cotton shading giant pillows we lounge upon,
Meandering through ancient streets and wild forests
Where we stop at every third park bench we pass
To sit closely and pretend we’re still consciously speaking
In syllables that reason can understand and explain,
For to me your words speak in gestures only my ears
– And perhaps the dear sweet Cupid who so cleverly pinned us –
Can fully grasp at, mingled so heavily with vibrant lips
My eyes cannot escape being entranced by,
And breath mine hairs can feel so warmly upon
With your gentle yet firm fingers ever so delicately
Squeezing a new pattern into mine palm of eternity.
I want to hold onto you, the back of your neck with softest of curls
As our lips mean to share what we’ve intoned of a feeling,
Forgetting for brief moments our shooting star madness
And living a while longer by the bane of our senses.
I danced to remember a feeling I had
While roaming alone on Pier Twenty One
Music so hypnotic I had hardly known
Whose eyes I had met with, feverish tone
At first it was silent, the music inside
Spotlight extended to one single soul
Hair twisting sideways each time it lasted
Steps that soon took my heartbeat along
Hands that soon felt for my returning heat
I’m sure that we danced here, but all I remember
Is the way that her eyes would instantly flash
A smile that would curl from the side of her eyes
That took on a new beat erupting inside
And the night ran away as we danced, now, along
To instincts we found in a feeling we now had.
