Dear Anne M. Frank (day 2336)

If only you could see the sun today
It peeked between the clouds
Showing off the marvelous colours
– Autumn’s precious gift –
It came and opened up a path
Through the darkened forest floor
That I took with a light heart
Just like you shucking peas!
And each bird that I happened to pass
Came to sing a song
Much like you at your window pane
Finding warmth in a sliver of light.
You would have been in ecstasy when
Upon me four dogs found themselves
Each with legs hardly a quarter their body’s length
And eyes as kind as flowers
Furry coats and eager noses
Which my hand found with ease.
As I made my way back home
The skies began to sing to me
My hair dripped wet
My bare toes slipped around
Oh Anne! I’m sure you would have rejoiced
In the feeling of life softly falling
Against your brow, dripping off
Just as if the world were saying:
“Here, this is freshness and a new start.”
Wouldn’t it be so nice
If we could each believe this truth?
But adolescent mirth
Disdained by the frivolous adult
Shall find it’s way inside today
To keep me on my toes
As I make my way, further yet
Into this bag of potatoes!

Forgotten (day 2335)

I have not remembered the promise we made each other
No, I have forgot it just like the sunset we watched
And the kiss – we never shared
I did not walk those streets with you
In a foreign villa of unending desires
It was not of my hand that wrote thee thy letter
No, that would have broken my heart
To watch you walk off into the day
Of another dream I did not have.
I have not remembered the promise we made each other
And I have not watched the same movie on repeat
I do not remember curling up with you
Under my grandmother’s knit afghan,
Every time I take to my bike
I do not think of the basket upon yours
Instead I ring my bell so loud
My knees they knock me free.

She’s Watching There (day 2334)

When the winter darkness
Comes from the deepest hearth
She’s watching there
She’s watching there
She’s in her lair
In the deep North Sea
With daggers hanging
Crows hovering
With spells brewing
She’s watching there
When your soul is calling
And begging for mercy
In ten thousand cold laments
When your hair is matted
And clothes are rumpled
And food is cold
She’s watching there
In the deep North Sea
When winter darkness
And frozen sea spray
Retreats into your heart
She’s watching there
Cold ice Queen
North Sea Queen.

Ribs Clutching Veins (day 2332)

Love turned to ice
Torn from it’s cave
Ribs clutching veins
Cavernous thoughts
Soiled floor
No longer beating
Lay the heart
Of the North Sea Queen
Upon her nightstand
Of blackest of stones.

Alone she sat
Eyes to the heavens
An empty void
Collapsing around her
In a symphony
Of North Sea Wind
Finding hollows
Within the North Sea Castle
Reminding all lovers
To beware
Icy grips of torture
Lay upon the brow;
Deep winter’s birth.

One by one
Suitors came bundled
Inexperienced, undermanned,
Incapable of holding
Court with frost
Who all left lifeless,
Vague and soulless,
Unable to escape
That same grip
Which tore thy love
– Ribs clutching veins.

Shadow Tower (day 2330)

She rustled her leaves back and forth
Sweeping a nation of winter
Through the villages below.

How could they feel
This anger, hatred
Without winter closing upon them?

Darkness in a tower
Shadows lingering longer
Than daylight had planned.

Whispers were shrieks
To those unshielded ears
Unbowed, unobedient.

Children not yet warned
Would stare in awe
Horrific shadows cast.

Amidst harsh coldness
Sat iron gates, locked
Winter, forever exposed.

Queen of the North Sea
Angular and majestic
Ruthless and cold.

What Was I Once (day 2329)

What was I once?
A boy?
Did I stand up for our rights?
And speak out with our voice?
Did I hold my own
In discussions of the future?
Did I make decisions
Understanding the gravity
Of seven generations?
And how many times
Did I remain calm
As those around me couldn’t?
Did I react to danger
As a leading protector?
Did I give safety
To those around me who couldn’t?
Did I stand up to help?
Did I give you a chance?
Have I become
A man?

Their Brute (day 2327)

Day by day
The North Sea Queen
Watched over her devoted:
Warriors of a
Highly skilled race
Rippling against their brute.

From in the sky
Her watchfull eye
Caught every bead
Of dripping sweat
And in her mind
Raced every game
Passion alone
Could not play.

Just as skilled
She lorded divine
Power over lust
That filled each eye
That caught her visage;
Then it shall succumb
Frozen as ice remains.

Yet even though
Her icy glare
Caught each eye
Who dared to stare,
She relished primal,
Openly devoured,
Sensually flaunted,
And ruthlessly
Took only prisoners.
