Mended Arrows (day 1667)

I’ve left out all my wiles
For a holiday in heaven,
A turn upon the road
To reach where my heart is still as still can be.

You, you were always forgiveness,
You were the mended arrow
A light beyond my vision
But illuminating my walk.

And how come I’ve been dreaming
Of a memory I’m believing
When I’ve got all of my stories
In a rucksack on my back.

There were twenty one good reasons
To hold onto the heathens
As they quickly walked on past
All in excitement and pure jubilee.

But you, you are plenty appealing
You hold me in good standing
And have brought me all my planning
That’s been brought out in the end.

So darling, reach out your good hand,
A wand of my believing,
To make my heart forever bleeding
As an arrow for your sweet light.

Forever Calling (day 1664)

You heard me calling out your name –
Upon my tongue it would forever last –
Though you took flight into the night,
At a half past forever gone.

I listened then into light wind
For the call I had learned as my own,
And here at last, my breaking point,
A white wolf on the run.

I dare not breathe for fear of alarm,
A fear my existence would cause caution,
Clear for me was how set free
Thy heart as latched bygone.

Your paws I tracked into deep forest,
My soft pads doubled your quick steps,
Leading me as if by force
Into your nature’s home.

It was here I finally sat atop
A rocky outcrop, a simple bluff,
Where every night I’d hear your call
Leaving me forever, never alone.

Holiday Basket (day 1648)

Sometimes I just want to call you my own,
Hold you into my arms to roll you into my soul.
I’m not going out tonight anymore,
Instead I’ll be boiling sweet tea for just two.
This is me trying for the best of my life
And I will not tire of you on my mind
Because you are what I want for my own.
How little you know of the feeling that grows,
Place a hand on your cheek, look into your eyes.
Your moon is my sun, your breath is my wind,
And I am here now, your hand in my hand,
Off to the moon or a little more slow,
Along with the ways of the sun in our souls.

I Cried (day 1644)

On the edge of my post they cried.
They sat down in a semi circle
With legs crossed and arms placed
Calmly about their laps
And sang to me with eyes closed
And angelic voices reaching from
Stern to bow.
There was an unanswered echo
That leapt from a good cause
To an outstanding motif
Highlighted in the sun.
Whence my eyes swept from
Juxtapose to just a reason
And calmly reminded myself
I was upon the edge of my post
Until they cried.

Jason (day 1641)

How dare you betray my support.
I gave you favor to aid your Colchis,
At the edge of the world I gave you my help;
Passage to my son’s temple
Where a dragon called home.
Atalanta, Heracles, Aphrodite all!
I led you to King Phineus’s
Against his curses,
Who gave you the wisdom of clashing Symplegades.
And dear Medea, dear Medea,
She harnessed your bulls!
She defeated the soldiers!
She held the dragon,
She enchanted the dragon
As you made way through Colchis.
Made way to your Golden Fleece.
To thank her upon return
You betray her loyalty?
You know nothing of wealth, or worth.
Your bed shall be forever cold,
Let her break your new hearth.
This blasphemous Princess.
I would enchant her should she ask it!
Though all know and fear her wrath,
An angry sorceress is more dangerous
Then all those you’ve battled.
And so your fleece, your golden reward,
Lonely and shining, Iolcus always winter.

Can Love (day 1611)

I don’t think I can love any other way
Then a heavy anchor tugging
Like window screen wipers
On at a very fast speed.
My storm is perfect and irregular
As its onslaught takes no prisoners
And leaves memories about my skin
Like thin veins navigating through
Lifelines of a thousand year old tree.
Some days I grasp like fallen soldiers
Stranded in limbo, crying out
The name signed with lipstick
Resting on a breast pocket postcard.
On other days, I recline in bliss
As a cackling fire warms my toes
And a pair of storyline mukluks
Bring me warm tea,
Reminding me of good choices I made.
I carry my tokens with me; inside.
I believe there should be no other way.
I believe that love supersedes
The cravings and doesn’t rely on
Place holders that distract real meaning
And distort intentions
In some silly ploy for attention
And a pitiful future
I will not dare seek to define.
I believe in redefinition absolutely,
But redefinition is never easy to agree with,
For the unsettling Demons, nay,
The unsettling Angels of my instinct
Carry with them a fire
That burns so dark in my soul
That I cry when they meet for tribunal.
I don’t think I can love any other way,
And no holiday nor any reward
Has ever shown me otherwise.
